Going around the cyber fashion scene in Dubai ( re : blogs, FB walls etc. ), I kind'a had mixed feeling of shock, disappointment and amusement. Seriously, the fashion sense and sensibility of some bloggers are just way out there ! ( c'mon guys really? leopard printed jacket on a man, Hello Kitty accessories all over, Leather in summer ) In fact, so way out that they almost look like they belong to some haute couture avant-garde fashion show in Paris not in the Metro, the City Centre or in an office in SZR. Sure I am all for expressing yourself through your fashion but more than that I advocate the words of the fashion-wise Tim Gunn that what you wear is how you wanna be perceived. You certainly don't wanna be perceived as the one with an outrageous outfit.
Dubai is a melting pot of a lot of cultures and I think that we need to have a fashion sense which aesthetically appeals to this mix, that way we don't stand out like a sore thumb ( in a bad ridiculous way ) but rather stand out in a fashionably inspirational way.
This blog then is all about that principle : you can be fashionable, you can be fashion forward, trendy or edgy but still very wearable, striking that perfect balance between blending in and standing out.
In the next few blogs I hope to achieve that -- to wear real clothes that you can walk around in anywhere ( minus the ridiculing glare of the mix, that is Dubai ).
